Depression is a disorder that takes years to form. While genetics plays a role in depression, your upbringing, your experiences (both recent and in the past), and your lifestyle choices can all play a role in whether or not you experience depression and what you need to do to change it.
There’s no such thing as a one stop cure for all forms of depression because depression can be caused by so many different factors. But one of the more interesting discoveries that scientists have made lately is that for many people, depression may be caused by simply not getting enough of an important nutrient: magnesium.
Why is There a Deficiency?
It’s only been within the last few decades that men and women have struggled with magnesium deficiencies. Not long ago, magnesium was an abundant metal found in almost every type of food, so deficiency was both uncommon and not widely regarded as an issue.
Modern food production processes, however, have essentially eliminated magnesium from most diets. Grains, breads, and other meals that used to be rich in magnesium are now nearly magnesium free, causing a deficiency that has only recently been brought to light.

It can be a feeling of low self-esteem or motivation brought on to the boiling point by a small situation that pushes the person into depression. With the lack of motivation are the feelings of life spiraling downward and complete helplessness and lack of hope for better things. Read the rest of this entry »
